Im looking at buying a boat that has a 1997 Mariner 175 Mag EFI. I was wondering if anyone had heard of having any problems out of this motor. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Mariner 175 EFI

the merc./mariner 175 e.f.i was a wonderful motor in 1997. but it is now over ten years oil and may need some service. you should have it cheaked out by a qualifyed tec./ mecanic befor buying the unit. things to chk. are: compretion, leak down test, gear case pressure chk., fuel rail pressur, spark at ign. coils and voltage out -put to the coils from the switch boxes, power trim unit fluid leaks and "leak-down" of motor if left tilted up with out "trailer bracket", make shore the gear case is "free" and can be removed for service, remove prop. and inspect shaft for twisting or bending. if you buy the motor after it chks. out, it will need a water pump thermostats and popet valve service, fuel lift pump re-build, fuel filters and a close look at the fuel sys. (esp. if you have had e-10 gas in your area for any time). if the seller has a mantinance log, this will make things a little easyer. good luck!
