I recently changed a Stator and two switch boxes(just before winter storage). Now when I ran up motor after bringing out of storage I found I have too much oil smoke causing a oil slick on water when I go above about 2500-3000 rpm. This only happened before when engine was still warming up. Now at idle everything seems to be fine. All the power pack voltages and stator voltages and resistance check good. Pretty sure this motor was bad when I bought boat as the neutral start switch is wired around at the remote. Until I get up to the 2500/3000 rpm range the motor seems to have a little exhaust smoke, but no oil slick. Looks pretty much normal for a two stroke in this area. Any idea's ??? This is an EFI/Oil injection model serial number B122102, 2.4 Liter V6.

Here is an update on this problem for anyone with similar problems. I gave up trying to fix myself and took to dealer. They said one of the switch boxes I had installed was bad. I told them to change whatever needed to be and about $680 later I got the boat back. They set timing and changed out the switch box was all on the invoice. I was a little sceptacal since I had done a DVA check as best I knew how with a Merc DVA. Finally got it to the lake to test it out this weekend. Ran great from start up to shut down. No smoke, hardly any even at startup. Would idle in and out of gear just fine and easily hit 35 mph at 5000 rpm. Still had some lung left, but decided not to push it on the first time out. So, money well spent in my book with todays outboard costs. Hope this helps some one else decide what to check and do.
