Mariner 25hp outboard

I am new to boating, and have recently acquired a 16 Lowe Jon boat with a 25 hp outboard tiller with an electric starter. I am looking to do a conversion from tiller to remote steering, and am looking for a bit of advice on where to start, such as what kind of kit do I need to do this conversion, and so on. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. The serial number for the motor is 0G092015.

Find a parts motor they show up regularly on CS. It's not an easy conversion with out a parts motor the cost can be prohibitive.

I would try this put an add on craigslist to trade your tiller for the steering and throttle assemblies might be able to do it for nothing. Where are you located if you are close to me I have a lot of the parts you will need. Depends on which ignition system you have

I'm located in Louisiana, but I'm still not sure if this is what I'm going to do yet. Just weighing my options and seeing if this is an effective thing to do with the boat. I still trying to see how involved this is going to be.

Are you looking for a stick steering setup or steering wheel type setup. Does you OB engine support a tilt tube cable feed? Reason I ask is because I just purchased all the cables and assemblies to install a stick steering setup in my boat and it cost a little over $420 dollars. So that can be a ballpark figure if you have nothing there presently.

Yes, you have a tilt tube steering system. That's a good thing. Your cost just dropped to accomplish your remote setup. I would look up your engine model and year to see if they offer the remote setup components. That would be the best way to go. Goto boat dot net and enter your manufacture, HP, year and even serial number and have a look see what is available. JMHO

You will need the actual remote control unit that will work with your engine and then the proper length cables for that remote control unit. There will be two. One for the throttle and the other one for the shifting. Then you need the wiring harness as well to plug into the engine and run to the controls at the helm area. Then you need the steering wheel setup and the proper steering cable for your boat. You have to buy the steering cable per your boat length. So once you figure out where you will mount the helm setup with the steering wheel assembly, then you can measure from there to the engine for the steering cable.

All his sound like a lot. And I guess it actually is for a conversion. But one you get everything setup, there are no more costs and you will have what you want. :thumb:

I'm sure they do. I don't know how detailed they will be. Maybe contact someone who has them in stock and see if they can email you a copy to see if it's something you can tackle. I would also have them check over the part numbers.
