I have a 1985 Mariner 25hp outboard. This motor runs great for about 30 min. The first symptom is after about 30 min, it will either just shut off like I hit the kill switch, or it will start to die and if I jiggle the throttle I can keep it going. When it shuts off, it starts back up first pull and might go for another 10 or 15 min. Eventually, it will shut off and need to sit for 5 min before it starts again. Yesterday, it shut off aftger about an hour. let it sit for 20 min. Started, but couls only run a a hair about idol. If I gave it any gas, it would die.
Due to a previous problem, I replaced both ignition coils, control box, stator and trigger. So the entire ignition is new. This problem also existed last year after I fixed the ignition. There is a steady good flow of water at the water hole. It is possible and likely that the timing is not set just right. I havent tried to fix that yet. But, when I first out it in the water, it runs great. I pulled the lower unit today, pump looks fine, but I'm going to replace it anyway. It's at least 3 yrs old.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks
Mark
