Mariner 4 with intex outboard mount. Problem with Suzuki 2.5hp outboard.

Hi gang,
Just bought a mariner 4 complete with the intex outboard mounting bracket, but my Suzuki 2.5hp doesn't seem to work well with this mount. The problem is that the throttle cable on the outboard is contained in a metal sleeve that runs in a curve below the tiller, and this catches on the mounting bar that holds the motor mount to the boat.....makes it almost impossible to use the tiller without it being almost vertical!! Any one had this issue and come up with a fix?

Think most people that use a gas engine build a custom motor mount for it. The Intex mounts are really only good for small electric trolling motors.
