what is compression ment to be ? are the motors any good ?

Compression is meant to be even +/- 10% across all cylinders. psi is irrelevant.

Well, if it is still in use after 32 years it must have been a pretty good engine.

Yes I have one on my boat a 3 others that I stripped down. the last time I checked mine for compression was 152 and 150 in October, I rarely use it as I have had 8 spinal operations.
