I have an older 70 hp mariner 2 stroke. It starts for me everytime and idles well. I was flying across a lake and suddenly the motor died. it restarted right away and idles well but i cant give it more than half throttle and it dies, it also has a random sputter when idling, I put in 3 new plugs, changed the fuel filter, and put in some 2 stoke cleaner, but no luck. I am new to boating .

Pump the fuel bulb while its doing this.

You can have an air leak in the connections of the fuel lines, bad fuel pump diaphram, dirty filter or even a gas tank vent thats not working correctly.

should the dials on top of the gas tank be open, a little, a lot or not at all, In the past i've looked back and seen the sides of my plastic tank pulled in so i would open the dial. Latley i've been running with the dial open to avoind any vaccum lock.
