I have a 9,9 hp mariner, single carb ,the out board starts sounds like it is running on one cylinder, runs for a bit say a minute and then dies ,stine dead as if you cut the fuel supply off,it take a lot to start it again, definatley running on one cylinder.
I removed to carb to find that inside the motor there are 3 thin metal plates on either side, looking into the throat, the right hand side plates have a fine layer of rust just where they open and close, tried to clean it a bit but has made no difference to the engine, any ideas what these plates do? My outboard is about 7 years old and has been in storage for 3 years ,I have cleaned the carb and the plugs both have spark.
The outboard has a total of about 15 hours of duty in its life.
Any help here would be great
