Both.. I changed out my starter, got distracted and didn't tighten the negative cable bolt all the way. It worked great that night but the next morning, nothing. Fortunately the suspect was the part last changed and I found he loose bolt right away.

Re: mariner 90hp inline 6

yep i found the problem, not really dirty connectors, just the starter cable a bit loose, so i just was wiggling every wire and found it and a few more just a good snug of the wrench anf its all better, still just spitting, not cranking and running. But hey new question maybe yall can help, like i have drained a gallon of gas out and there is a white substaince in the bottom of a clear gallon jug. what is it? and now all the gas must be drained.

yep it was water, now with water out of fuel, besides pulling carbs off, can the bowls be drained and pump new fuel in to them, or almost flood the carbs to push out old watery fuel, anything besides having to pull them off and rebuild them.

Rosser, Sidebowl carbs have a brass hex head main jet cover plug. Remove it and pump the primer bulb to expell the water.

Re: mariner 90hp inline 6

ok, so i did as i was told, i took the brass plugs out of the carb and yes there was some water and milky stuff come out and flushed out the old gas and hopefully all new clean gas is in, still turning over but not hitting. great spark and compression, the only time it acts like it wants to start is when i spray a fuel mix into the spark plug holes. I don't get it i can get lawnmowers, gokarts and tiller going in matter of a day or a few mins. all engines are they same the air and fuel mix and turning over the pistons they will hit or something, but this crazy outboard is driving me bananas!!

You need to be persistant. Pump up the primer until the motor floods a bit, spray the 50::1 fuel mix into the carbs, close the choke shutters and crank it with the cold start lever all the way up. If the rest of the motor is good, it will catch.

Re: mariner 90hp inline 6

On a standard MerControl the cold start is a lever just above and to the left of the keyswitch. You use your thumb to lift it up for cold starting. Other controls have a throttle only button in the center of the throttle handle. Push it in and push the throttle forward for cold start
