Really makes you wonder about the economics involved in subcontracting some of your model line to another company. Mariner was supposed to be a cheap Mercury. So how do they buit engines from Yamaha, a high-end brand, and charge Mariner prices?

I don't get it.

Mariner originally was a coop between Yamaha and Merc. 2-60 was Yamaha (except the 50 4-cyl), bigger engines was Merc. This lasted to around 1990 I think , later Mariner has been all-Mercury.

ja .. they are the same motors up till about 1989. i had 6 of those 2cyl motors but mine were all 60hp motors ... however they all the same and parts are all interchangable... the only diffrence i cud pick up was the earlier models used to use a diffrent cdi. i now am sorry i sold them coz i am now saddled with 3cyl 60hp motors thats screwing up my wallet coz they so much heavier on fuel.

Some of the 2cyl 60hp motors had a little higher displacement, 798cc instead of 760cc.
