Mariner Outboard Year Help!

Hi folks,

Just picked up a second hand boat with a Mariner outboard on the back...
Looked up the Mercury charts but couldnt find an exact match and havent found anywhere else with charts...

Anyway it is a 15Hp Long Shaft Rope Start (Made in Japan). Numbers on the plate are as follows:

15ML
684C L 334796

Looks like it is one of those made by Yamaha for Mariner as it has a yamaha engine block.


Any help appreciated. Might be a 1990 model??

Storesonline, marinshopen and brunswick marine (europe) all list your model.

Not all the listings include the letters but the serial number is still valid.

Legend, thanks again, and one more question you might be able to help me with... Considering it is a Yamaha engine, if I want to find spare parts, for which brand should i look up?? Mariner, Yamaha, or perhaps even Mercury?

Is just the engine Yamaha or did they make the gear case, prop and everything else to yamaha specs?

Earlier mariners were 100% yamaha but in 1986 the joint venture was unraveling, there is no way to know exactly who made what but yamaha had a hand in the majority of the components.

You need to search for MARINER parts even though they may be common to merc or yamaha.

Good info thanks again. I emailed the local parts guys and got a quote for an impeller... Mariner branded one... $55... Yamaha branded one (same part) $28 LOL
