Good morning I am called Georgios and I have a Mariner 150 hp 1997 model 2.5 li Magnum efi on a Poseidon ranieri 5.90m. For some time now I have seen on my sonar and on my voltmeter the instrument of the engine when I raise throttle to 16.2 - 16.5volt !!! Is normal???? I have measured the battery with a multimeter to see what voltage the output of the engine exits, and when I quit the throttle I get the same but when I go middle turns it shows me 14.5- 15.8volt !!! You say it's the voltage regulator ???

I think that you have it figured out Georgios. Bad regulator. You may have ruined your battery if you have done this for a long time. however, if it still starts then maybe the battery is still ok.

I would expect dual 20A voltage regulators on that motor. First clean all the electrical connections and grounds. Second retest for voltage as you have done.

If the over voltage really bothers you, replace the VRs. On my '93 Merc The VRs produce constantly varying voltage. It doesn't seem to hurt anything, and the VRs were already replaced with CDI electronics products.
