Mariner Starter Will Spin but won't Engage

I have a 92' Mariner 115 and it has ran flawlessly until my last outing. I turned the key to start my engine, but the starter would just spin and wouldn't rise to engage the fly wheel. I purchased a brand new starter and installed it and had the same problem. Please help.

if you cant physically pull the bendix up by hand, the bendix is the problem

If all connections are good and clean, could this be a solenoid problem? I can easily pull up the bendix.

the way that motor sounds on the youtube it sounds as if the voltage is not high enough to cause it to spin up quickly and engage the gear into the flywheel. I'm not sure exactly what makes it fly up to engage but I think its rotation speed inertia that overcomes a spring. So a too low voltage causes it to rotate at a slower speed. Try bypassing solenoid with a jumper cable and hook starter straight to a battery. Be careful with cables. Potential for lots of current and heat if you touch the wrong thing.

Have your battery load tested.------Even if it is a " new " battery----Take the starter apart for inspection.----Easy to do.------It must spin up instantly do get the pinion to go up.

Make sure negatives are clean and tight, as well as positives. That definitely looks/sounds like either a weak battery, or a bad connection somewhere. Take a decent size set of jumper cables and attach them directly from the battery negative to the starter motor case, and then solidly touch the positive to the starter positive stud (at the bottom of the starter motor). That bypasses everything like the engine battery cables and solenoid. If the starter bendix jumps into engagement, you have a cable or solenoid problem. If not, the battery's U.S.
