Re: mariner warning buzzer

Is it a constant "tone" or a beep...beep...beep? Constant "tone" is overheat and beep...beep...beep is oil warning. Need to know this to know which sensors to check first.

Re: mariner warning buzzer

There seem to be two possible culprits to start with. 1. There is a short in the wire harness from the sensor to the alarm buzzer. 2. The temperture sensor is defective. Problems have a way of coming and going, until the components are fixed or replaced. Just recently I have had a similar "on and off" difficulty with a power trim relay.

You can also check for continuity on the wire.

I don't believe that you have one continuous wire going from the overheat sensor to the horn... I think the wire is only about 12" long from the sensor to a junction where it is screwed on. The junction is just above the rectifier near the top starboard side of the block, somewhere. Follow the wire from the sensor, and you'll find it.

If it is just the wire or sensor bad, that is all you will need to replace.... I've never removed the overheat sensor before but it has to come out probably by just removing the bracket and pulling it out? Hopefully someone else has done this before....
