Re: mariner year model?

Try posting the HP and serial number here, some of the japanize built mariners seem impossible to get the exact year

Are you sure it is a 15hp. If you are I think the only 15hp in the older mercs was in t 60 and 61 but the serial number does not contain enough numbers unless it is not american. Post a pic and I can tell you what year it is.

Re: mariner year model?

I spent some time today trying to track down orgin of Mariner serial numbers and can tell you it's tough, the 6 digit number you gave is incomplete If you 15 HP engine is a yamaha built engine it should have a pre 6 digit number of 3 digits 651 for 76-77 * 684 for 78 to 86 * 87 was 7 digits * 88 M or ML * around 90 they started with Mercury Marines 0A thru 0P or something like that typical of Jap products they try to make impossible to tell the year of manufacture if your not a dealer. I have tried before to get to the bottom of their numbering system and it has always been a waste of time

Re: mariner year model?

Hi, Ok, I checked the plate again and it says the following:

Mariner 15M
684C S 058384

But the cowl says YAMAHA 15

I spoke to the guy I bought the boat off and he said that he built the engine from some parts and that the yamaha and mariner are the same motor with a different badge.

I just need to find out what is what and what year model it is so that I can get parts if I need to.

Thanks again.

Re: mariner year model?

Today I went to my local outboard shoppe and they tell me mine is between 1980 and 1990. They couldnt tell me the exact year without the book, but that was the year range he said.

I also got the screw adapter to use the "wash" port with the garden hose.

Thanks for the help.
