Hi!

I bought myself a broken down Johnson 120 hp from 1992, two cyls was gone. That is history now and I'm going to assemble all the stuff again. I received the power head almost fully disassembled in two big boxes with the bolts, nuts etc in separat bags.

Now, my question:

On the bolts there are marks on the head saying either "R" (+ some additional marks), "HP", "TH" or no marks at all. I don't what this means for sure. My best guess is that the marks stands for a classification of how strong the bolt is. Since the crank case bolts have an "R" on them, and the bolts
for fastening the carburetors have no marking (it is plastic carburetors), my guess is that "R" stands for the highest classification of a bolt, that is, it's the strongest of them. In such a case I guess that all bolts and fasteners marked with an "R" is ment for positions where a major force is present. But what about the "HP" and "TH" marked bolts?

Is this theory correct? If not, what does the marks mean?

(Excuse me for my bad english, I guess that there are better words for some of the things I've tried to say).

Thanks!

/ Gote Johansson, Sweden
