Does anyone know if this company is still arouind. I need to replace the motor that goes with this winch but I am not seeing anything online. I believe it was original to my 2002 280 Sundancer.

Did you try google, and are you sure Marlin is the manufacturer? The only 'Marlin' winch/windlass I could find is a model made by Lofrans. Their website isn't the easiest to maneuver, but they do have a US distributor:

Your boat isn't very old and Searay is still in business, so you could try there, too.

Most electric motors are easy to rebuild, did you consider that option? Google "electric motor rebuilding service". They usually just fail because of worn brushes or failed bearings. Even if it's all corroded, it can usually be repaired. I had a VP AQ125A starter rebuilt for 90 bucks after it had been submerged for months. At the time, a new one was 4 times that price at the dealer.

Look for a business in your local are that rebuilds starters and alternators for cars/trucks....... I have had excellent 12V motor results in my local area....... cheaper too. The easiest way is to call a local garage and ask who they use ;)

I went through this last year with my 2001 Searay 270 where one of the posts on the motor broke off. Imtra in Florida is the only supplier of Lofrans products I found here in the states. Since you are like me and only need to replace the motor, getting the watts/volts rating off your current motor you can then go to their site or call them for what the replacement motor model number is: they start with a lwp... model number.
Imtra sells direct but once I had the motor model number, I was able to find a boating store that sells them at a discounted price. Expect though to pay $700-$1000 depending on your model. Mine was a 500 watt model and was slightly under $700.
As a sidenote, the newer motor no longer had the extuded posts; it's all internal now and I imagine less likely to break.
