Wondering if anybody is familiar with Martin engines. I own a Martin 45, year unknown, it runs great. I use it as a trolling motor. It has a self contained gas tank and is air cooled. It is direct drive. When it starts ,you are going. To get reverse you turn the motor 180 deg. Just wanted to know if anybody knows this motor.

Re: Martin 45

I had a 5HP Martin many years ago, Todd. Don't remember much about it except that it was a smooth water cooled twin.

I bought, fixed and sold an awful lot of small outboards in those days. Martins were very popular in the midwest then.

Yeah its called www.martinoutboards.com. Cool little motors, poppet valve fuel injection/metering. It is water cooled though so be sure to check the impeller now and again.

My neighbour gave me one in 1973. It never ran but I did have fun tearing it apart. I recall the decal stating it was made by some Pressure Cooker Company.

My uncle sold Martins at the Republic Steel "company store" back in the 50's. The store didn't handle "top of the line" merchandise, so I don't know exactly what this says about Martin motors. As a kid, I remember his-I think it was a 5HP. Black with chrome trim. I don't remember ever seeing another one out on the river. As I recall, it always brought us back.
