Press Release | December 10, 2001

iboats.com is pleased to announce the addition of 25-year marine industry veteran and Master Mechanic Dave O’Brien as the iboats Marine Engine Technical Manager. O’Brien’s extensive marine service background is an excellent match for this new position, which will be the backbone of the company’s technical support and service parts operations.

O’Brien started in the marine industry in 1976 as the Service Manager for Ohio Marine in Celina, Ohio. In that position he experienced all the varied demands faced by typical dealership service departments. His 13 years there included attendance at a variety of engine manufacturer service schools. The training and dealership experience at Ohio Marine provided an impressive foundation for his career advancement in the field of marine service.

In 1990 O’Brien accepted a position at Mercury Marine world headquarters in Fond du Lac, WI. He started as a Technical Service Administrator, fielding service questions from dealer service departments throughout the U.S. Dave followed that up with a 3-year stint as a Mercury Marine Service School Instructor. In 1992 he transferred to the prestigious Hi-Performance Group at Mercury, where he worked in race engine assembly and provided on-site technical assistance at race events. It was during O’Brien’s tenure in Hi-Performance that he earned the coveted “Master Mechanic” designation, the most prestigious technical service award offered by Mercury.

Recognizing O’Brien’s proven technical expertise and dealership service department skills, Mercury promoted him to the position of Midas Inventory Management Systems Instructor, where he trained dealers and Mercury employees nationwide on the MIDAS system. He continued in that field when he was recruited by Bell & Howell/Lightspeed to help expand that company’s network of marine accounts that utilized its dealer management system programs.

In 1997 Dave joined the Q-Lube Marine Services division of Pennzoil-Quaker State, a nationwide chain of mobile marine service centers. In addition to developing service procedures, special equipment and operations software for the new company, he conducted field training courses for franchisee staff.

O’Brien will be using all of his marine technical skills in his new position as Marine Engine Technical Manager at iboats.com. Immediate responsibilities will include managing the iboats marine service parts operations and overseeing all iboats marine technical support. The iboats Engine Department is excited to have O’Brien come aboard. We know that his marine service expertise will make a huge contribution to the team.
