I doubt I'm using the right terminology. Sorry. When I got my boat, there was a piece of untreated bead board on hinges hanging down over the bilge compartment as a kind of door. There was another bead board panel latched in place to cover the access to the bow storage compartment. Those boards looked really sad, so I removed them last summer with the intent of replacing them with pieces of plastic peg board that I hoped would wear better than the poor bead board. Well, that's a non-starter because the peg board stuff is WAY too expensive. It occurred to me that I could start with some plywood panels that were about 3/8 in or so thick, put some cleats on them to add rigidity, then waterproof them somehow. I thought perhaps I might be able to seal them with one or more coats of oil-based Kilz, then a couple of coats of oil-based flat outdoor paint. This would be reasonably cost-effective -- as long as it would work.
Any ideas, anyone?
