Max RPM for '74 GM L6 165 / OMC 165 Outdrive

When I get the new lower unit put on, I'll need to know what my limits are with my system...

'74 Grady White 212 Chesapeake with GM L6 250 and OMC 165 Electric Shift Outdrive...

What is my max RPM? I don't want to push her too hard. So far, (before the lower unit went out), I've had her up to 4K RPM, but not for long. That gets me at about 33 mph, (plenty fast), but do not know what max RPM is.

If I get caught in a storm off shore or have to run from one, I'd hate to blow my motor while running from a potentially bad situation!!!

Anyone with experience, your advice is certainly appreciated!

My mercruiser manual for a 74 165 lists max rpm as 3900-4300. I believe they're the same motor.

Just to be safe, I'll keep her at or under 4000 then. (Unless I get some more responses)!
