I will be taking out my new to me pontoon boat out for her maden voyage today. I have read that I want to be proped so my max RPM is around 5500. I have two different pitch props I am going to try and see if I can get close. My question is what constitutes "around" 5500 rpms? If I am hitting 5400 I presume I am good. What about 5300 or 5600?? I guess I am just asking if there is a range that if I fall within that range don't mess with it. This is a 1987 20 foot pontoon with a 1979 115 hp Johnson V4.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Re: Max RPM range?

The way it is listed in my manual for my johnny 200 I think is betweeen 5400 and 5600 when WOT and trimmed is the target area. Lower than that and you are too big (too Pitched) higher than that and you are slipping.
