Bought a Lund 1700 Fisherman late last fall with a 115 HP 4 Stroke Mercury. Just getting through the breakin period and starting to really see what the engine has. Right now I am not impressed as max RPM's are about 4800 and max MPH is about 36-37. Pitch on the standard Black Max prop that came with it is a 19.

I called Lund Engineering for prop recomendations and they indicated that I should ensure the engine is mounted in the second hole so that the cavitation plate is equal or above the bottom of the hull. I took a look at the motor and currently it is about an inch or so below the hull. They also indicated I should upgrade to a Vengeance 18 pitch stainless steel prop. They indicated top speed with this config should be 41 - 46 MPH.

Boat will be used as a fish boat mostly while pulling a tube once in a while. I would prefer to have a solid top end speed as we do hit some big lakes in Canada when we go up there that I want to be able to get across quickly but also want a decent hole shot.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Info?
Spencer

get a 5 blade 17 pitch speed prop stainless steel, and raise your engine so the cavitation plate is in straight line with the bottom of the hull .... make a hell of a difference

Yep, start at level with the bottom of the hull, than go one hole higher and try again. You want to achieve the highest position you can while still allowing the prop to grip the water while in a mid point of trim and while completing a fairly aggressive turn at speed. Also keep an eye on the water pressure or temp gauge, going to high can cause aerated water to enter the water pick up and reduce the cooling capacity although that’s not usually a problem until you get upwards of a couple of inches above the hull. When you think you have the right height than consider a prop change if you’re still not satisfied. Good luck.

If you can raise the motor at least 1 inch you could gain 2 to 3 mph with no other changes.
And you may be able to raise it more but watch that the water pickup remains where it can work properly.you need to end up at a position just before blowout becomes a problem.Get the engine trim just right then you can tell better where you are at prop wise.

Spencer WOT on that motor sould be 5000-6000.
I doesnt make rated HP until 5500rpms.
My buddy has that motor on a very similar boat.
His boat came with a 19pitch blackmax and would only turn 4900rpm...... A 16 pitch vengance got him up to 5800 rpm.....
good luck

Lowering the pitch is the LAST thing we want to do...
we maximize what we have now first.
Turbo1 blade design works well on this rig, problem is..I don't "think" we can get a T1 for that engine.
We can't go with a 4 or 5-bld prop without a jackplate because we can't utilize the technology of the extra blades, so for every blade we add we have to drop an inch in pitch...we keep getting slower and slower.
The Vengeance is an "OK" prop, but is just an entry-level SS prop.
That engine should perform best in the third hole down, and it may take a better prop to hold bite there...I just checked and there are many models available for that engine in 3-bld..Stiletto is one of them.
