Hello, I have a few questions about a 2001 Maxum 1800 XR. I'm currently looking at the boat and am curious what someone would think of it. One of the things I never (ever) want to do again is replace rotted wood - I did this in my current boat this spring. Can anyone tell me if this particular model used any wood for the floor (doesnt look that way to me), the stringers, or the transom? Maxum lists this model as having Greenwood Forest Products marine structural panels, but I cant find any info on if this is wood or something else. Is there anything specific I should check out on this particular boat? What should I expect to pay? I dont want to rely on the dealer for this info, so if someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

Also, NADA lists the value of this boat at:

High retail - $10,980.00
low retail - $9,650.00

The boat is listed for $10,900 (a generous 80 bucks under high retail, eh?). It has the 125 hp Mercury O/B. is this a decent motor? What should I really expect to pay? This particular dealer just told me on the phone that I dont need to make an appointment to come back to look because he hasnt been busy at all, so if thats true I think that will help bring the price down.

what would YOU pay?

Thanks for any opinions.

I would always try to get at least 20% under book, these guys are getting them wholesale or trade for far less usually.

Can't help you on the wood question, I will say that a 125 OB may be kinda small for watersports, especially for the big guys.

20% less than the low retail. I woudlnt pay high retail for a used boat no matter what shape its in. Remember he is the one who has the boat taking room up in his lot. If he wants a sale he will come down on the price. I woudlnt even look at high retail as a starting point. start at low retail and work down from there
