Does anyone on here have a 2300SC? I can only seem to get 43 mph out of my boat at WOT (4800rpm), is this pretty much all she will do? Not that I run her that hard very much but with a 5.7 carb 250hp alpha one drive 1.42. it seems to me this boat should at least hit 50.

My question is about a prop change, i am running a alpha 4 18 pitch and it hits WOT. as it does with the 19 pitch 3 blade black max. Would a 4 or 5 blade stainless get me anymore speed or just a better ride and durability? I hate to spend so much money on changing props so I thought I would see if anyone on here had a simalar boat.
Many thanks

Do or can you hit the rev limiter @ wot?

When your @ wot how much of your wake goes out the side's of the boat, or does it go straight out the back.

I just went thourgh this with a 19' I/O, the original prop was a 19p 3 bl Al, i went to a 20p 4 bl SS with a lot lifting properties and got a 5 mph gain. The first thing that was apparent was how much higher the boat ran, second was the wake it'self. It went straight out the back, none on the side's and was very frothy or atomized.

That's a lot of speed gain going up one pitch, it was probably due to running less wetted surface aka less friction. I did try a 21p SS 3 blade and picked up another 1 mph but the boat did not run as high as the 4bl.

Some intresting thing's were how much certain brand type's can really grab or bite the water, i am certain this was the reason for the big difference in speed, Thinking back to the orignal prop the motor would hit the rev limiter but not bang it every two seconds or so just hit it every so often say once every ten seconds.

Now this hull is a 20 degree deep v and 2800 lbs dry with a 215hp v6 not as heavy as your's but Stilletto makes some damm fine water biting prop's that did this boat justice................. Now if only Merc would get some production up on the 23 enteria, that will be intresting.

Do have trim tabs may be worth a try first.

How old is the boat and is it in good condition?

Seems that it should hit around 48 if in good shape.

Of course a good SS prop will be more efficient, but as you pointed out, there is a cost...

Just wanted to suggest the investment in stainless steel 4 blade propeller is worth it. We got better mileage, speed, and less vibration/smoother runs once we did that improvement, and yes, the boat planes better and hits 50mph - if we want it to, but usually never run it full throttle for fuel economy/engine care reasons.
Enjoy the boat, with good care it will take cares away from you too.
