Help, I think I'm in trouble. I have a 3.0 merc that I just fired up to get ready to go. It has always been winterized professionally. I checked the dip stick and it is creamy and it has a strong odor of gas. I had it running for a while with the muffs on and it ran well and did not overheat. I had a head gasket done in 2003. Could it be the fuel pump ? Would gas make it creamy? Help

No gas will not make the oil creamy. Water will make the oil creamy.
When did you discover the creamy oil? Beofre or after you ran it?
did you change the oil and filter?

You have 2 differant problems if you have creamy oil that smells like gas.

Thanks RJ. I noticed it after I ran it. The oil was clear b4 I started it. I had it changed in October when it was winterized.

Was this the first time you started the boat this year?
I agree two separate problems. With regards to the water in oil.
Reason I asked: IF yes, than could be,
1- Water somehow got in the carb.
2- Normal condensation, depends on how mush water.
3- Cracked manifold, not winterized properly.
4- Cracked block.
Do a leak test. Pressurize the motor with air you will hear where it is leaking. If g-d forbid it's a cracked block and this was the first time you used the boat this year, it's the marinas fault. Same with the manifold.
Now with regards to gas in the oil; could be fuel pump.OR sticking fuel needle in carb.

Ayuh,....

I'd suspect the Fuelpump,... You said it ran well....

Is there any liquid in the sight tube, from the fuelpump to the carb,..??

This sounds extremely similar to my issue. Winterized properly, runs well, ran on the muffs, now oil stinks like fuel/exhaust and is creamy. Post an update if you figure out what's going on!
