I had my motor in a trash can filled with water flushing out engine. We had an emergency come up so i quickly turned off motor. I forgot i still had it in the can. It was six days later. Will that damage anything in motor. When i finally remembered i took it out after running all of the gas out. It is a honda 25hp 4 stroke. Thank you in advance for any info.

Outboard motors can be left in water for pretty long periods of time with no ill effects, it should be fine.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity and also to stop my wife from nagging me about it. What is the kind of damage if left for lets say weeks or months in water.

If a plastic can nothing will happen a metal can might ,very slim chance, cause some really minor electrolytic corrosion. But most motors have an anode under the antivent plate that would react first. Our motors used to sit in the water all summer april -dec.(northeast fresh water) grew lots of green stuff but never any problems.
