I know this question has been asked, hoping u can just point me in the right direction. Outdrive is a 1987 Cobra (4.6l engine). Last summer it was running great. Went out and normally I buzz around, but was just barely above idling around the lake for most of the day. Stopped and anchored, when I started it back up, no gears, as if it was in neutral. Had to get towed in. When I got home, not sure if it is reason why, but I had started the boat at home and left the water thingy u hook up to a hose on the engine. It wasn?t over the intake, but guessing it was for a while. Thinking that would have affected engine overheating, which it didn?t, but ????
Life happened, boat has been sitting. Just getting around to checking it out. Here is what I know at the moment.
With the engine off in either forward or reverse, I can?t turn the prop by hand. 1[SUP]st[/SUP] time I did it, the prop turned maybe ? a revolution, making a clicking noise as it turned, then engaged and will no longer turn by hand.
I can?t see if the drive shaft is turning. I?m a cripple, can?t get in the right position to see it.
After ?locking? up the prop, I started it up (yes, hose hooked up) and put it into gear ? prop did not turn.
Wondering ? with it in gear , not too much gas, I got a 2x4 and tapped the prop. It did then begin to turn tho not as fast as it should have been and it was making a weird clicking, almost grinding noise. I couldn?t really tell if it was coming from the coupler area or lower drive ? water was everywhere, BIG puddle in my way ?
1[SUP]st[/SUP] idea from reading other posts is the lower drive cable. Am wondering tho, and why I tapped the prop to see if it would turn, since making that weird noise, is it more likely the gears or ?????
Just wondering if someone can maybe point me in the right direction. Recently divorced, tight on money at the moment so can?t just be throwing money at it.
Thanks for any info
