I have 1989 Mariner Pro-V 175 V-6
When i start my motor i get the usual pre-beeps, but then it will start beeping at me constantly. the guy i bought it from said i need a new voltage regulator. i was out on the lake and my battery went dead. so i am wondering if i just need a new battery or if anyone has heard of a problem with this.
thanks a lot for any info

Pretty easy to check. If the motor is running, the voltage across the battery terminals at idle should be > 13.5 VDC. If not, either the regulator/rectifier is bad, or the AC to it is too low or non-existent. Suggest using a shop manual or take to a qualified tech. Doesn't sound too hard to pin down. Another thing to look for is high resistance terminations at the battery back to the voltage regulator.
