Can i install an MC 1 in place of an Alpha 1 boat is a 1987 with the 4.3
i have 3- outdrives a 1979 898 mid 70s,888 and a 74 165 straight 6

i realize that the gear ratio is not quite right 4.3 should be 1,83-1 and the others are 1.65 or 888 is a 1.50-1 ( why did the old 165 hp 6 run a higher gear ratio than a V6?) but i think i could make that up with a lower pitch prop just want to know if it will fit on the Alpha 1 transom mount

just remembered i have a late 70s from a 140 HP which is 1.98 -1 i guess that is really the closest gear ratio

thanks for the help

Ayuh,.... The drive off the I-6 is the one ya wanta use,....

The I-4 drive is geared way to low,... unless this is a 25'/ 30' boat,...

Check the yoke lengths. The in-line engines used a different length yoke to the V8s up to 1982. After that, they all the same.

Ayuh,... Great point Chris, I forgot the drive off the I-6 will have the short input shaft,... 'bout an inch too short,.......

That'll tear up the coupler in no time, as only 'bout 1/2 of the length of the splines are engaged,.....

Been there, done that, got a tow from the CG,....

Should be able to knock out the u-joint, 'n change to the input shaft from the other drive though,.....
