I have duel MC/Bravos that each has a neutral button that when pressed in forces the motor/OD into neutral so that I can advance the throttle w/o being in gear. I cannot press in or move one of the drives' button. The other one works fine. Since we had previously disconnected the OD's shifter linkage, to reinstall motors, I may have gotten something out of alignment. Before wasting a lot of time, should I be examining something else???

If the drives goes into F/N/R correctly than problem is in the binnacle

Thanks, but what could be restricting it??? I pulled the plastic cap off last year and lubricated it all. Then, I noticed that I couldn't depress button. I had health issues for 5 years and am now being able to work on getting boat ready for 2026. Thx

I say Normally with a grain of salt, but normally to remove the neutral button the shifter is moved full forward and then the button can be removed. Removing it in neutral position can break part of the button inside

All the button does is disengage the drive cable from moving forward. All this is done inside the binnacle. It's not working so need to take it apart.

You can look up the break down HERE

For consideration, I had an issue a few years back where the throttle for my Bravo1 would sometimes struggle to find neutral, and the button had issues engaging. This made cold starting a nightmare as the button wouldn't do anything. Always thought the problem was in the shifter but my mechanic eventually figured out that my lower shift cable was binding due to a leaking shift bellow. New cable/bellow fixed my issue.
