Ok so I aquired a boat. With an old McCulloch motor. The motor needs some work. I can't tell the year because the plate with the model number and alot of that, is worn and cracked and stuff. It looks complete, but the hoses are cracked. I want to fix it. If anyone could chime in I'd appreciate it.
1) where to start. If you aquired a motor that was old, where would you being. Replacing what? Seals gaskets.
2) I will provide pictures if I can get some responses. Pics of any angle.
3) parts for McCulloch motors links and recommendations
Thanks again

I assume that is one of those low profile McCullochs. Is the hood in good condition? They usually are not, and are made of unobtanium. Anyhow, start with an honest good look at it. Is it all there and in decent condition? Then proceed with a compression test. If it passes that, then go through the ignition and fuel systems and get it running. If you get that far, replace the water pump impeller. I assume you've checked the lower unit for oil & water intrusion before you get this far.

FYI, that low profile McCulloch is a motor that you will either love or hate.

Put up a pic of the motor 2 different 7.5s made by mcculloch. Regardless do not take the motor apart to replace gaskets that is a can of worms you don't want. Those motors for some reason will start and run fine after extended periods of sitting.

I had one of the low profile ones think it was a 60s model. Its been a minute but like the other 2 experts said I checked the obvious and did some research and nothing I wanted to tackle as far as taking apart. Luckily mine I got cheap didnt spend hardly any money on it and it ran like a champ.I got lucky and it happens sometimes.....lol

Run it 50-1 are waterpumps are available brand new. Your motor is a 1964- around 68. I would try to start it see if it runs. To do anything on that motor you need to pull the powerhead and if you tackle that be prepared for broken bolts. Water pump is easy enough if it starts and runs.

Ok it seems like a beast but there are hoses that need replaced which shouldn't be a big deal. And I would like to change the water pump. I'm pretty sure it will run.. what shod I clean all around the insides with. It's collected a few wasp nest and dirt

You can use compressed air and soap and water just make sure to cover the carb. If you are talking about the hoses that run next to the carb that have the bulges in them. Those bulges are actually check valves so if you can get away with reusing them so I would try. There are only 3 hoses on the motor.

Its a 1965 year 7.5hp. Had the same one. The 80000 tells you its 1965. They made 3 different ones that year all look the same and all were 7.5 hp.I sent you a private message regarding a repair manual.
