I just broke the choke on my 7.5 Ted Williams! I'll try in a bit to post a picture, but the tab that the rod connects to broke. It appears to be a flap that slides accross an opening, which is not a type of choke that I've seen on other small engines. That flap has a little tab that the control rod is hooked to, and that tab broke. Any ideas on if parts like this are available? This is a 1968. I may also need to replace the recoil mechanism, as that seems to be near the end of its life. I bought this thing about two moths ago and it ran fine in a bucket. Last week, I tried it again and it was pretty rough. First time on the water, I didn't think it was ever going to run for more than three seconds, but it finally gave me a ride for a mile or so before sputtering out. After the wind blew me back to the boat ramp someone there showed me where to find the screen type filter, and I found a fly in it. I took it out and put in an inline filter and some seafoam in the gas, and it fired up. That's when I was playing with the choke and it pulled all the way out. I'm beginning to wonder if paying $250 for this motor was a mistake. I'm not sure if it's worth putting money into, but I want to have a motor for my boat. Any suggestions or places to look for parts and manuals would be appreciated.

Wow thats a lot.I think the company has been gone for 30 years.
Folks collect them. They were ok motors but like all the low profile motors a pain to work on.And now parts can be a struggle.Try the Scott Guy for help at ask the scott guy.
If it is a tillotson carb a small engine shop may have parts for it.
you also may be able to cob something together.

Thanks for the leads. I appologize for the lack of pictures, but my camera software seems to be missing right now. I managed to get that plate/flap out and if I can't find another there's a chance I can rig something. I'm not very good at soldering, but do you think that would hold?

Thanks. I found another (miracle) at Indy Boat Salvage. If you're in central Indiana, they seem to have a lot of old stuff but don't bother calling because you just have to go there and find it. It was stressed at the point where my original one broke, so I reinforced it with silver solder. It works alright, but not as smooth as it originally might have. I also saw that the fuel line inside the hood where it connects to the carb was very loose, so I replaced it and put a clamp on it. What a pain to work on! These things are not easy to work on because thay are compact. At first when I tried it it didn't want to run, but after leaving it alone for a few hours it started right up and ran quite well. Monday I'll go back to the lake.
