1981 Mercruiser 140...
Trying to get this motor ready to go in boat and i need to switch out the manifolds to be compatible with outdrive exhaust tube and throttle connection.
I had the elbow off of the manifold to look at the configuration of the studs and then i put it back on but didn't torque it down.
I didn't think about it and started the motor for about two minutes with water to it and it sounded ok but not great. I shut it down.
I then realized that i was an idiot, and tightened down all for bolts on the exhaust elbow. I put water to the motor again and started it up. ran her for about 5-10 minutes and sounded good and even idles pretty darn good. haven't done the timing adjustment yet, but it sounds pretty good...
Today checked the oil and noticed that there was a slight sign of water in the oil on the dipstick. Its not like its super creamy or has any bubbles just a tad bit hazy.
I loosened the valve on the hose coming from the oil pan and drained about a 1/4 cup of oil out. There was no sign of water at all. completely transparent.
I was thinking that when i started the motor with the exhaust elbow loose that a little bit of water may have entered the motor? Im not sure what to think. What should I check? P.s. checked the compression after oil today and it was good( #1-148,#2-146, #3-145, #4-145).
Do you think that the problem is just that i am stupid and left the two bolts loose when i ran it with water goin through? Im hoping that's the case, But im not sure if that's even possible. thanks, Matt
