Will an mcm and an Alpha 1 out drive interchange? All looks identical except for the shafts that go into the engine. One is shorter than the other. Anyone ever tried? Thanks

They will interchange. What you have, with the shorter shaft, is one drive that came off an inline 6 engine. It got a shorter shaft than the 4 cyls and the V8s.

Of course, switch the shaft and use the one you need for your application.

Ayuh,... What are you calling an MCM,..??

The Mod.1s, R drives, MR drives,+ the Alpha 1 drives will all interchange....
The 8+" input shafts are for the GM based In-Line motors...
The V-motors,+ the later drives use the 9+" input shafts...
The Shorter input shafts went away with the Intro of the MR drives I believe...
Possibly the R drives...

Of course,... There's still the gear Ratio question......??...

MCM stands for Mercruiser Marine (I/O's) as opposed to MIE that stands for Mercruiser Inboard Engines.

MCM does not stand for any particular type outdrive.
