In aligning a rebuilt engine I have to raise the front mounts so there is no thread left to secure the nuts and washer. I'm thinking of taking some old mounts- cutting off the bottoms and using these as spacers to put under the mounts I am presently using. This should give me enough height to be able secure the top nuts and washers. Does anyone see a problem with this?

Re: MCM228 engine alignment

Sure, its not right.were the rear mounts changed? if yes, what style.
Are the rear mountings assembled correctly
If only the motor was rebuilt, there should be very little adjustment needed if alignment was reasonably correct

Re: MCM228 engine alignment

The original engine was a 1983 MCM228 305/5L (serial#6275628). It had a cracked block so I found a 1979 898 engine and swapped over all the MCM228 components onto the 898 block including the tins around the flywheel. I guess I could re-pull the engine and check the rear mounting to see if it is OK. Do you think this is the best approach>
