Pointer - think insurance cost per foot. Also, slip rental cost per foot. In this case, shorter is better.

<br /><br />This is my experience: for gov't purposes, measure from the furthest part of the hull at the bow to the furthest part of the hull at the stern. Same going port to stb for beam. Some states and marinas will include swim platforms in LOA if molded into the hull, but not if attached. Same for anchoring goodies on the bow; platforms that are molded to the hull count, attached goodies (railings, anchor rollers, etc) dont count, except they can for slip rentals because they don't want it hanging over the docks. The drive system never counts, but rudders do if they exceed the hull length (never seen it). Fenders, bumpers, etc that are permanently attached to the hull count for insurance and slip rental, but not for govt stuff.
