First time boater with an easy (hopefuly) question. I have an '81 sea-ray open bow with a merc 120/alpha one drive. I want to put a trolling/back-up motor on the boat. There is an existing bracket for the motor. I am thinking about a Tohatsu 9.8. Need to figure out the shaft length. I have measured from the top of the mounting bracket (no adjustment option) to the water line and that is 12". Is this enough to determine the shaft length or do I need more measurements?

Thanks!

Re: Measuring for Kicker Motor

no, you need to measure from the bracket where the motor clamps will sit, to the bottom of the boat, the prop has to be below the bottom to push water. you have a choice of 15" 20" 25" shafts you want the next longer shaft than the measurement. or you have to move the bracket. give us the measurement of you situation.
