Measuring shaft

1964 Evenrude speedtwin 28 hp 2cylinder. from where to where do I measure the shaft? to find out 15" or 20"inlength. Thank you

Measure from where the motor would sit on the top of the transom to the antiventilation plate. I will likely be about 15" in that year motor.

Those motors were engineered to run on wood boats. The cavitation plate runs about an inch BELOW the boat bottom. In other words, expect to measure about 16 or 21 inches from the top of the transom to the plate. More or less, but certainly not 5 inches more or less, the difference between long and short shaft.
