We would be glad to try and help if you would give us just a tiny bit more information.

Could be a cracked cylinder, etc. Most likely a head gasket though. Take a look at your plugs and tell us what you see.

How did the mechanic determine "water in the motor" ?

Re: Mechanic told me water is getting into the "motor"

i really doubt its a cracked cylinder i would be able to see it right?

I don't see any water at all on the spark plugs after turning over the engine with the hose on full or even after starting it.

He was telling me maybe the "seals" between the cylinders wen't and its causing these problems and it has something to do with water

Im no mechanic unfortunately but im willing to learn and you guys have already helped me to much :)

It can not be the carb's because there clean as a whistle

Thanks again boys and gals

You can't see the cylinder from the outside ... what you see is the outside of the water jacket. Compression test will verify head gasket and/or cylinder.

It's usually easy to remove the head, then you can see the cylinder walls, inspect the head, etc. Always replace with a new head gasket and torque the head bolts.

From sounds of it, you would be reluctant to remove cylinder heads because you are a novice repairman. I think the plugs suggestion earlier was misinterpreted. What they were asking for is the condition of the plugs as far as color and buildup. The reason is, if the plugs have been exposed to water during combustion, they will appear steam cleaned and nearly spotless. If you pull the plugs...what do you see? Are they all the same (dark w/no sludge) or is perhaps one/two a lot cleaner than the others? Let us know. ALso, I would ask the mechanic WHY he knows water is in your engine? What does he see that tells him that? That info could help these guys answer your questions more specific and better. Good Luck

*sigh*

A 70 65 horse Merc doesnt have a head gasket. There is no head. Most likely water would be entering through the exhaust cover gasket/s.

y2jericho

Waterbug2 is right.

Apparently you were told two of the plugs were misfiring / water fouled because they were very clean with white insulators??? Have you made a previous post that I am not aware of?

That is typical when water is getting into the cylinders. On your engine that leak is from the exhaust cover water jacket area(it has no head gasket or cylinder head for that matter).

Before you start tearing the engine apart (or tearing your hair out!) swap plugs from the two cylinders that seem to be firing normally. Those plugs will have some color to them. If you find that after running the engine, these two plugs are now clean as new, then you are probably getting water into those two cylinders. Try to look into those two clyinders through the spark plug hole and see if therer are any spots of water inside.

There have been other post about exhaust cover leaks. Do a search, then read through them for more good advice.

Good Luck,
Gold Bear ;)

Re: Mechanic told me water is getting into the "motor"

Well I'm getting my costly beauty a 2nd opinion on whats wrong for $50 US. He will pull it apart and tell me exactly whats wrong so then i will know how much I am going to spend. Got an offer for $650 US for a 78 Model 120hp Chrysler/(force) .. One of the last chrysler motors to be imported to Australia with parts still very readily available (heaps of people have these motors in Australia) You think its worth it ?

Also First time im taking the boat out of the driveway to take it to the mechanic (last mechanic checked it out at home) And going roughly 65km/h down the freeway where the speed limit is 110km/h just to be safe and i look in the mirror and theres chunks of rubber flying everywhere. Pull over.. there 1cm2 of rubber still left on the rim and i took out the spare and had a look for the first time at it and realised it was cracked on the side wall half way through. I put it on and ended up driving another 130km round trip to mechanic and home on it. Don't you just hate it when first.. Motor screws up.. Then your wheels screw up.... Then something else screws up.. Then your wife divorces you... Those days absolutely **** me when everything goes wrong lol ;)

Anyway Have a good weekend I know i won't ;)

Cya from the land downunder. I will post any news asap He has anyway narrowed it down over a quick check to the lower seal or a reeve in the carb. Will find out more in the thourough check

Bye

Re: Mechanic told me water is getting into the "motor"

What a motherf**ker. Was driving to the mechanic (20km away) and I look in the rear view mirror and the ****ing boat is driving lopsided.. Im like what could be doing that (first i thought the boat slip support broke) i stop and i get out and see the whole left wheel smoking up and nearly flames. Its smoking so much i can't see the nuts where to unscrew them. Eventually a quick spray with the fire extinguisher and a few finger burns later i get the wheel off and put the older replacement on. These were brand new tyres i hadn't even drove 3km on them and they were from Bridgestone tyre center so they had to be good. They are quite thin though and even at the correct PSi they still flex a bit when in contact with the ground (is this normal?)

I think i may need to buy some old toyota or brand new rims from somewhere that are around 12 inches and much wider than my 10inch rims to be safe.

Anyway thanks again

IF YOU ARE GETTING WATER IN TO YOUR SYLINDERS YOU HOST LIKELY HAVE A BAD EXHAUST GASKET OUR AA CROUDED HOLE IN THE COVER BETWEEN THE WATER JACKET AND THE EXAUST IT WILL LET WATER IN AND IT WILL WASH THE OIL OFF THE PISTON AND YOU WILL GET SCORD PISTON AND CYLINDERS
