Mecury Optimax Spark Plugs

Do mercury optimax's need the expensive mercury spark plugs or will the the DFI engine run on normal universal boat spark plugs?<br /><br />Thnx<br />Dan

I see no reason you could'nt run a NGK plug. The fact that is has DFI should not make any difference. I'm not 100% sure, so I would wait for other opinions. What year & HP is it? As an example: <br /><br /> 1998 150.0 hp 150 Opti Max =<br /><br /> Platinum- PZFR5F-11 # 4363 # .040

I remember from going to school that all you want to run in the optimax was the champion plugs that they call for so if they are saying in school not to run nothing but the champions that would be all i would put in there plugs are cheaper than a head.
