Hi Folks,
1977 Reinell with OMC 175 Hp I/O and Medallion tachometer with switch positions 1,2,3,4 on the back.

Anyone know which position is used for the 8 Cylinder I/O? I found one source for a different brand tach that said position 3 for 8 cylinder, but this brand had a 5 position switch with the last one for outboard engines.

Also, anyone know which of the three pots inside one should use to tweek the tach RPM once I get the switch in the right position?

Re: Medallion Tachometer setting for 8 Cyl I/O?

I didn't get any replies, but in case someone checks this thread later the switch position #2 seems to give the best correlation with a separate dwell/tach meter. My tachmeter had other issues; the back anchor for the movement spring had come loose and in gluing it back the spring was deformed and the tach needle tends to stick now, but tapping on the glass helps settle it at any given RPM. I wish the switch had 4, 6, 8 and something else instead of the 1, 2, 3, 4 which doesn't tell you anything about the function of each position.

Phil, when I first saw your post I did a bit of research. Position #3 was mentioned on many websites as the correct setting for an 8 cyl but I could not confirm this so I didn't reply. It bugs me when I can't find a definite answer to a problem.
