Hey guys, I have a 2002 Mercury 75 hp 2 stroke, I noticed the 2 wires that come from that stator have melted the shields where they connect. What would cause this ? Everything works as it should and charges fine.
Common problem on Merc rect/reg. The factory uses a female connector the is split and connection is only about 60% to male terminal as it tapered. This causes heat to build up and melt insulators due to resistance. Replace the ends with a high heat S/S male/female spade connector and glass tape...
