If it idles down nice I would not suspect reeds. Take the exhaust covers off and look for port plugging with carbon. If the ports are plugged up try removing it with a popsicle stick.

Joe Bart,

The reeds would not be trouble at that rpm, it would be running poor at idle/slow speed. How long have you owned this rig? Has there been any propeller changes? When did the trouble occur?

Re: merc 100 are reed valves on crankshaft

thanks guys for the reply's.. I got this boat two years ago.. The boat belonged to a friend that works for me, he had the boat at searay for 3 mounths.. for the same reason.. the boat was given to him from his father inlaw, were the boat sat for 4 years. searay rebiult carbs (twice) checked for blockage. compression was all around 120-125psi ,it has a 19 pitch prop in which was on the boat when bought. 16ft boat. searay wanted $2500.00 to get the boat out. so of course he didn't have the money so I got the boat.they only thing different about this boat then others I've had is that my volt meter ,when running reads 15 volts, which I think is a little strange but keeps my battery charged. clueless in south carolina. any input from you guys is appreciated thanks
