hey guys whats up? ok heres the deal, ive been noticing my merc has been running really cold lately, i can run the engine for dam near an hour and the water still feels fairly cold. the engine is running ok, i think there might be something wrong with the thermostat, and if there is, can you guys tell me where it is? i was wandering if merc just used straight water without a thermostat

thanks guys!

Re: merc 110 9.8h.p

Hi Rocky,
You didn't give a serial with your motor, but chances are it doesn't have a t-stat. Only the last year or two of the 11-cube 7.5/9.8hp series had t-stats. If yours has one, it would be a bulge on top of the exhaust cover (port side of motor) held on by a wire clip. No bulge, no t-stat... Could be the water's just cold and doesn't warm up much on the way through. You say running for an hour - at idle or wide open? At idle the motor will probably stay very cool. At wide open, with a good load in the boat, it should warm up a bit...
- Scott
