Merc 115 hp inline 6 tower of problems

[alphamax]

I have a inline 6 1982 , syntoms :<br />do not go over 2500 rpm, seems like a ignition problem, check fuel pump ok, carburetors ok, removed idle stabilizer.......<br />replaced switch boxes and check all ignition parts with seloc eletrical values... all ok<br />replaced propeller 19 " with 15" <br />BUT NOTHING TO DO

Have you checked the spark at the plugs with a spark tester? You could have a coil arcing internally. This may not show up doing a test with an ohm meter.

Alphamax, Does that motor have a high speed stator winding? If so it may have failed, but the slow speed stator winding is still good.

Hello, I seem to have the same troubles as alphamax. I have a 79 1/2 115hp inline 6. Do I have a high speed stator winding?<br /><br />p.s. alphamax, did you get it fixed yet and what that the problem, the high speed stator?

I don't understand if I have a high/low speed stator , on the top there is a stator with 10 pole, however I have replaced motor with a 2001 100 hp .

Im mot sure but, I have A 1975 150 inline 6. I only have 2 wires from stater. So I think mine is all in one. (Hi & low) Don't the ones with hi & low windings have 4 wires?

Tim your stator just charges the battery.<br /><br />As for the others, the ADI stator has a high and low speed winding. If the high speed winding is shot, the symptoms will be as described above. It'll just crap out a little over 2000.<br /><br />-W

My stator have two wires yellow (for alternator) and 4 wires red, blu, red/wht, blu /wht , the first two pilot a 3 cilinder switch box and the second two pilot another 3 cilinder switch box, have i an high/low speed stator? bah however<br />today was a sun day in Venice(ITALY) ,a boat day

Yes your stator has hi/low windings. Ohm it out as per the manual. I suspect the hi-speed winding might be caput.<br /><br />-W
