I have a 115 Merc with a 20" shaft. My boat has a 15" transom. The motor appears to have a section which would be removable, requiring replacement of the drive shaft with a shorter one. Is this easy/practical? My motor is down for a rebuid so this is the time to do it...Please advise.

ummm...upon re-measuring, make that a 20" transom and a 25" motor...sorry about that.

You have an XL shaft motor & need a long. The easy way would be to buy a long center section & gearbox for your engine. Then sell your XL units to recover the costs.Slightly harder but probably cheaper is buyng a long center section & getting your XL shaft cut down to a long.Another option is to make up a mounting plate for your engine to fit on the transom might look a bit wierd but you wont get the powerhead wet backing down on that 1000lb marlin :D Hope this helps :)
