I am getting to know this 1973 Crestliner Cuddy Cabin that has a great running Merc 1150 on it. When I throttle up and it gets going all of a sudden it will try to go into a right turn by itself until I ease up on the throttle and straighten it up. I am thinking it has to do with play in the steering. It seems if I continually turn the wheel back and forth it somewhat lessens the pull to the right. Is this a normal occurance or should I look into replacing the steering stuff? Is this where NFB would be desirable?

That sounds like engine torque on the system, NFB steering will help and in some cases a prop with less blade area will

You might look at the zinc anode above the prop. These can be adjusted to remove some or all of the steering torque. Turn it CCW when viewed from above, to fix the pull to the right. Alos, make sure the motor trim is set correctly. If it is trimmed in (down) too far, they tend to pull right also. Usually the second or third hole from the bottom is the correct one. Trial and error is the way to find out. Trim it as high as possible w/o ventilation of the prop.

Also if trimmed in excessivly it will make it worse.

Yepblaze, When you overtrim a motor, it tends to pull left.

I must have been facing backwards.
