Merc 120 Clicking

I have an 80 Mercruiser 120, it runs perfect, has all the power it should, no leaks from exhaust, but it clicks, clear through the RPM range it clicks, the clicking speeds up when I increase the throttle, doesn't matter if its in gear or not, sounds like a rocker might be lose or bad lifter, any suggestions?

A little light on the info but:clicking
if it seems to keep time with the engine, faster/louder as the rpm`s go up
outdrive U joints, bent push rod, broken rocker, loose rocker.These are mostly a lounder /metallic clank not click.
A soft clicking from around the riser/ exaust area may be the flappers/ shutters burnt or worn to the point the metal ends make a soft clicking soundas they bounce off the exause tube and rattle around..
