merc 125hp water pump

hi i just purchased a 2000 bayliner tropy cc with a 125 mercury saltwater series outboard. it seemed to take a good minute before water started to **** out of the hole[with muffs on] it was coming out of the exhaust real quick. is this normal? im thinking i should put new impeller or water pump in it. ive never owned a mercury. if i take off the i beleive 5 bolts off will the whole lower unit seperate? and the water pump be in there? thanks ken

That's normal. It starts when the thermostat opens.

thanks!!! was a little concerned, my johnsons started coming out right away. i found a nice video on replacing water pump. quite simply! will replace just because it probably hasnt been for a while. thanks ken
